Outreach Committee Update

By: John Capers

As one of the five CCSGA sub-committees, the Outreach Committee serves as the student body’s link to the greater Colorado Springs community. Our goal as a committee is to develop, maintain, and better our connection to Colorado Springs through student engagement with off-campus events, local organizations, and community development in Colorado Springs. The biggest contribution our committee offers to students is the ability to directly advocate for students concerns on a city level. In addition, our committee is in charge of appointing and overseeing the students who serve on the All-College Committees on campus. We are a committee that also focus on enriching the quality of campus life through outside partnerships. We collaborate actively with the UCCS student government, local officials, and local non-profits. Our past projects have featured: pushing and gaining funding for a lighting retrofit change at a D20 school in order to improve environmental conditions for the school and assist in CC’s carbon neutrality goal. We also had brought a CC alumnae, Mark Glaze, to speak on bi-partisan gun control in the country. One of our upcoming events is a site vist to an Organization called RAWTools, where they turn guns into gardening tools as activism for less gun violence in the country. If your organization, or you as an individual, wants to further your connection to Colorado Springs- contact us!
